Abstract

A good assemblage of Karharbari plant fossils has been recovered for the first time from Lower Gondwana beds of Auranga Coalfield, Bihar. The assemblage is characterised by the presence of Neomariopteris (N. hughesi), Gangamopteris (G. cyclopteroides, G. clarkeana), Glossopteris (G. damudica, G. communis), Vertebraria (V. indica), Noeggerathiopsis (N. densinervis), Euryphyllum (E. whittianum) and Samaropsis (S. ganjrensis).

The flora compares closely with the known Karharbari assemblages of India.
