Abstract

Palaeospiroxylon heterocellularis et sp. nov., collected from Bonbahal Colliery, Raniganj Coalfield, West Bengal, India has been described. The salient features of the wood are the presence of secretory cells in the pith, endarch primary xylem, mixed type of tracheid wall pitting, and spiral thickenings in the secondary xylem.
